an exciting thing happened today…

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

this photograph, which is one of my most favorite that i’ve ever taken, won 1st place in the category of food in the 2014 iphone photography awards.  i am completely humbled to be chosen, and totally psyched!  i originally posted it on instagram, and here.

it is often lamented that people never put down their phones these days, and i can absolutely be guilty of that, but i like to think that’s because, most of the time, i am taking pictures with mine.  the ease and convenience of my iphone camera, coupled with the high quality photos it produces, qualify it as an irreplaceable tool for me!

the contest has been getting some attention around the web, which is pretty cool:  mac rumorsthe daily mailgeek sugarimorevanity fair italia; inside mobile apps; yahoo! news; the verge; business insider; the independent; buzzfeed; bored panda; huffpost; american photo magazine; the washington post.

a HUGE thank you to the judges at IPPA, and to all my sweet friends and family who have reached out.  like i said — totally psyched!

p.s.  (this photo, another favorite, received ‘honorable mention’ in the nature category, too, so i feel like i should give it some love):

traditions.

my nana’s halloween cookies — molasses with cream cheese frosting — have been a staple of my october every year since i can remember.  with heaping spoonfuls of cinnamon, cloves, and ginger, it doesn’t feel like fall until i’ve smelled these babies fresh out the oven, thanks to my mom.  being in DC this year, i needed to make them myself, so after a preliminary (and successful, i might add!) batch for matt, i made another for my coworkers for our first day back after the government shutdown.  and they never fail to please!

lens (re)cap: farmers market flavors.

farmers markets are one of my top five favorite places to take photographs, so naturally, i am looking forward to a scheduled trip to d.c.’s eastern market this upcoming weekend.  this was taken at the granville island market in vancouver, b.c. a couple christmases ago.
