skyline drive: shots of the shenandoah.

admittedly, i knew nothing of skyline drive until my boss mentioned it during a discussion of d.c.’s gorgeous fall foliage.  just over an hour outside the beltway, this 100+ mile road snakes through shenandoah national park with over 75 scenic overlooks facing east and west.  matt and i set out for the northern entrance in the early afternoon this past saturday, made it about one third of the way south, and turned back to watch the sunset on our way home.  while i wish we’d made it out about one week earlier (some of the trees were looking a little bare), all in all, it was absolutely spectacular.  the blue ridge mountains lived up to their name, and the countless shades of red, gold and orange were a perfect final autumn fix as we head into a crispy winter.

we even caught some sort of photo shoot at our final stop and boy, did i NOT envy that model — let’s just say her ensemble was not fit for the temperatures we experienced at that altitude.
