wasn’t my nana a total betty?

a few weeks ago, i lost my wonderful nana.  i put together the slideshow for her memorial service, which meant i had the privilege of pouring over hundreds of photographs of her that i’d never seen before.  the experience reminded me of one of the many reasons i love photography: the documentation of our personal histories is so important, if only to allow the younger generations (particularly our loved ones) to know us better.  i am incredibly thankful that a) i have these pictures in my possession now and b) that they were taken in the first place.

i’m making an exception today and posting pictures here that i didn’t take myself.  i have always loved old photographs, but these ones obviously have more meaning to me and i have looked over them hundreds of times in the few weeks.  i am obsessed!  i am struck by how beautiful she was, inside and out, and that i should be so lucky if i have half as much fun as she did in her lifetime and be surrounded by as much love.  here are some of my favorites of the collection.

  1. Incredible pictures! I felt like I was looking at the real life version of Betty Draper from Madmen. Nana was beautiful.

  2. Wow! What a treasure is right. “Madmen” was my Moms life….and us kids. Lots of entertaining and fun creative energy. They were very contemporary for the times. Good rich memories. Great share doll!

  3. Indeed…your Nana was a total beauty! Such a gracious human being and quite a gal.Fabulous job with the slide show Lexi….thoroughly enjoyed watching twice through….a privilege.May your Nana’s SPIRIT shine outward through you Lexi. Sally Neu
