bayou gratitude: thanksgiving in new orleans.

this past weekend, i had the great privilege of spending thanksgiving with the smith/mackinnon clan in louisiana.  after the big meal on thursday in mandeville, a town across from new orleans via lake pontchartrain, we spent the weekend in NOLA with matt’s older brother and his wife, as well as family that poured in from arkansas, texas, and of course, seattle.

this was my first holiday away from my family, but it sure didn’t feel like it.  i’ve never encountered a group more generous and welcoming, and i am so grateful to have been a part of the gathering.  i can’t wait to visit again.

everything about NOLA —  from its big history to the little architectural details in the french quarter — totally enchanted me.  it was a dream to photograph and i’m already craving one last helping of beignets.

  1. Mom is so moved. Did you just bother Matt stopping to take flicks all the time? I have done that to your Dad before. My bad!

  2. Loved my trip through the Bayou. Thank you for the arm chair experience. That photo you took of the gold crystals(?) with the purple background would makefabulous fabric or wallpaper. Keep clickin’Sally Neu

  3. Lexi, I showed Max your photos. He was in New Orleans last summer for a brief stay and recognized many places. He thinks the gold crystals with purple are a chandelier. He also pointed out the Mississippi river to me.Your photos made him wish he had stayed longer. Sally
